Child & Adolescent Needs & Strengths Assessment

(CANS)

The Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) Comprehensive Assessment is a multipurpose tool developed for youth under the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS). It exists to support care planning and level of care decision-making, to facilitate quality improvement initiatives, and to allow for the monitoring of outcomes of services. The CANS addresses the mental health of children, adolescents and their families.

Who Is CANS For?

CANS was developed with the primary objectives of permanency planning, safety and improved quality of life for youth in foster care.

Youth who enter the care of DFPS and are 3-17 years of age need a CANS 2.0 assessment within 30 days of entering care and annually thereafter, per state requirements.

It is a privilege to contribute to such an important cause. I am confident in the ability of Hope & Health Medical Clinics to provide compassionate and thorough assessments, and we look forward to assisting and supporting your family in this meaningful way!
